Benefits of Salaah / Prayer

1) Salaah is the best method of gaining ones Rizq (Sustenance).

Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said "Abu Huraira inform your children to establish prayer, in return Allah will provide rizq from unimaginable sources.

2) Salaah protects one from sinning.

[Surah Al-Ankabut 29:45] O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), recite from the Book which has been sent down to you, and establish the prayer; indeed the prayer stops from indecency and evil; and indeed the remembrance of Allah is the greatest; and Allah knows all what you do.

3) Salaah is the best method to remove laziness:

[Surah Al-Araaf 7:201] Surely, those who fear Allah when the temptation of the devil touches them, they begin (Allah's) remembrance. At the same time their eyes are opened.

4) Salaah is also the best method for ones forgiveness of minor sins.

Bukahir shareef Hadith number: 501

Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "Let anyone tell me; if a stream flows by the house of any person and he baths in it five times a day, whether any dirt will remain on his body?" The companions replied that no dirt would remain in such a case. He said, "So is the case with prescribed prayers. Allah forgives men's sins (minor) on their account." (Bukhari/ Muslim)

5) Salaah is best method of removal of anxiety/tensions

[Surah Al Baqara 2:153] O you who believe! Seek help through patience and prayer surely, Allah is with (those) who have patience.

Khusoo and Kudhu

Definition: Surah Al Mominun 23, Verses 1 and 2:

“Successful indeed are the believers; Those who become most humble and submissive in their Prayer.”

1) After hearing the Adhan with sincerity and awarness focus the Heart upon Allah Almighty

[Surah Al jummah 62:9] O you believe! When the call is made for Salaatul Jumm'ah then hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave aside business. That is better for you, if you know.

[Surah Noor 24:37] By men who neither trade nor business diverts from the remembrance of Allah and performing of prayer and paying of zakat. They fear a day in which hearts and eyes shall be turned about.

2) A person should focus upon that Allah Almighty is watching him at all times.

Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) defined Ihsan as:

'That you worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him then He sees you.' (Bukhari/Muslim)

3) In each and every Salaah a person should pray like it is there final salaah.

Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said: "Remember death within your prayer because when a man remembers death in his prayer it strives to beautify his prayer and pray the prayer of a man who does not think that he will perform another prayer after it. Take caution and as an excuse is sought for every affair." Mishkat Shareef

4) To pray Salaah with understanding of what is being recited.

[Surah Al Nisa 4:43] - those who believe! Do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated (or) until you have much sense that what you say you (have) understood.

5) Whilst reading Salaah person should realise that they are conversing with Allah

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Allah, the Blessed and Exalted has said: ‘I have divided the prayer between Myself and My slave, into two halves, and My slave shall have what he has asked for.”

When the slave says ‘Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds,’ Allah says, ‘My slave has praised Me.’ When the slave says, ‘The Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy,’ Allah says, ‘My slave has extolled me.’ When the slave says, ‘Master of the Day of Judgement,’ Allah says, ‘My slave has glorified me.’ When the slave says, ‘It is You alone we worship and it is You alone we ask for help,’ Allah says, ‘This is between Me and My slave, and My slave shall have what he asked for.’ When the slave says, ‘Guide us to the Straight Path, the path of those whom You have favoured, not the path of those who receive Your anger, nor of those who go astray,’ Allah says, ‘All these are for My slave, and My slave shall have what he asked for.’”

Saheeh Muslim, Kitaab al-Salaah, Baab wujoob qiraa’at al-Faatihah fi kulli rak’ah.
